The New Museum of Biel contacted our class to take part in an exhibition entitled “20 Figures of Biel”. In this project, I worked in a group with Max Thétaz, a colleague and friend. Our task was to anonymously present a Biel personality who had helped or left their mark on the town, whether through graphic work or otherwise. Ernst Studer is a native of Biel who worked on the train rails around 1915. He is a forgotten hero, because he prevented bloodshed between the Swiss army and the citizens of Biel by changing the trajectory of certain trains. The idea of medals immediately came to us, because heroes often receive medals or honors. After sketching out around a hundred shapes, we selected around forty, finalized them on the computer, then laser-cut and painted them silver.
